MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS REGIONAL COOPERATION, HON.MULIMBA JOHN CONVENES A DISTRICT SECURITY STAKEHOLDERS’ MEETING
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, Hon. John Mulimba convened a meeting at Chango Macho Hall on Friday 5th April 2024 with the objective of having a way forward on the insecurity of Busia following the continuous fire outbreaks, theft, raids, exploitation by money lenders, domestic violence etc ...
It was attended by stakeholders from the entire district including MP Samia Bugwe South,hon. Godfrey Odero, interest groups, security operatives from the village level to Region, bodaboda,political leaders at all levels, media and district staff.
Security reports were presented by all security departments and a discussion with individual members both reacting to reports and asking questions that were answered by the Minister.
He took members through the money lenders Act of 2019 since it had been noted that during the NRM members register update 37% of the members had their IDs kept my money lenders. He ruled out the act as illegal since IDs are a property of the government of Uganda.
The security stakeholders meeting agreed on the following;
1. RDC should organise the bodaboda industry in the District.
2. Most of the schools are operating boarding sections illegally and CAO should step up efforts to ensure that those that want to operate boarding sections meet the required standards.
3. LC1s should step up vigilance in registering residents and visitors that visit their villages.
4. All LC3s should start holding security meetings and report regularly to the District security committee.
5. Security team should step up border security vigilance.
6. Those with information relating to security should always share with security officers.
7. Those cited in criminality before and have been reported with evidence should be apprehended by DPC and his team.
8. RDC and security team should scrutinise the 200 cases of money lenders and streamline the money lenders in the District in accordance to the money lending act 2019.
9. Leaders should sensitise the public on purposeful borrowing through mindset change .
10. All unregistered auto moving plants should be impounded.
11. Busia sugar allied should be checked to end their continued pollution.
12. The minister promised to lobby for fire fighting equipment from the ministry since the equipment is now spoilt.
13. A meeting shall be covened with the leaders to look into service delivery matters.
